The same thing has happened to me with a book in an entirely different series too, when the main character was kept prisoner, so I know that this was a completely personal issue. I was really excited about this portion of the book, but then found that when I got to it, it wasn’t really holding my attention. As the synopsis promises, Nita (our heroine) is sold and kept prisoner. Somewhere at about 1/3 into the book, I kind of struggled a little with staying focused on this book, and this was not the book or author’s fault, but rather something to do with my tastes. Also, from the very first page, nothing was, or went, as I expected it … which was quit refreshing! I also liked that this book actually delivered the violence that it promised us in the synopsis! I have read nowhere near enough books set in South America though, so I was very happy about this, and I think that it definitely added to the uniqueness of the story. I had such an interesting experience with Not Even Bones! My first impression was that I was completely surprised that the setting was a real place (South America), considering that I expected all of the settings in the book to be completely fictional. Now she’s going to do a lot of bad deeds to get it all back. Nita did a good deed, and it cost her everything. Now Nita is on the other side of the bars, and there is no line she won’t cross to escape and make sure no one can ever capture her again.
